Spring Closet Reno

When we bought our house that we are currently living in, one of the (many) things I did NOT love about it was the closets.  I loved that it had two separate closets, but the space itself was not being utilized very well, and the closets in  the master bedroom are just small.  I have a lot of clothes, so figuring out what to do was a bit of a challenge.  So I just handed it over to my dad and let him decide.  This is a picture of what my closet looked like BEFORE my dad took over.

Okay so there's a lot going on here, but let me point out a few things: one, these wire racks were NOT working for me.  Clearly.  I mean, I had so many clothes on that little rack in the middle that it broke clean off the wall.  Then, there was absolutely NO space for shoes.  And just the design in general was not working at all for me.  Here are a few more examples of what the closet looked like:

Wow.  I mean, I'm not going to lie; this was a hot mess.  So my dad came over, and he listened to what I wanted (basically: SPACE for my clothes and shoes.  what else do you need from a closet??), and this is what he did:

Doesn't that picture make your heart sing?  No?  Well, it sure does mine!

Dad made this nifty little shoe holder and it works great for my shoes, workout clothes, and leggings on the bottom.  I also had this little metal stand that was previously in my bathroom that holds more sandals and heels.  I have a ton of sandals, and so for the time being I have them in a shoe holder tucked behind the door since they are a bit of an eye sore.

Most of these have two or three shoes tucked into them.  I do have a lot of shoes.

I've had people ask me how I organize my spring and winter clothes.  Basically this is a look at how I organize them:

As you can see, I keep all of my pants out year round, because I tend to wear them year round.  I also keep out some of my long sleeve shirts that are bright colors, and all of my cardigans as long as they are light weight.  All heavy sweaters, sweater dresses, or just dark dresses in general are put away.  I then organize my closet by color coordination, each within its own category: i.e., all dresses are together from white to black, all cardigans, and pants, all short sleeve shirts, all tunics, all shorts, etc.  I think I put away approximately four large bins worth of clothes (along with boots and shoes that are only winter appropriate), and what I have left you see here!  So that's how I organize my spring closet!

Thankful for a dad who can make something out of a little of nothing!  I may still have a little closet, but at least it's a little ORGANIZED closet!  I love my little space!

Please feel free to share organizing tips if you have some!
Happy Friday!

What I Wore...Easter

For Easter this year I didn't do my typical floral or bright colors that I normally go for.  Instead I let my husband's get up be the inspiration for what I wore.  He already knew he wanted to wear a turquoise and navy bow tie, I went with a navy dress with turquoise accessories.  It was very simple but I think still looked nice and elegant.

Outfit Details:  Dress: Ross; Necklace: Can't remember where I got it;
Navy Wedges: Poshmark.com; Earrings: Gift; Watch: Charming Charlie

I don't know what's been going on with my camera lately (or maybe it's the user??) but I have been really frustrated with the quality of my pictures.  They seem to be somewhat out of focus all the time.  I just cannot get used to my new camera! :(

I absolutely love this necklace...unfortunately I can't remember where I got it!  I'm pretty sure it was either Charming Charlie or Body Central, because that is where I get all of my jewelry. When I wear this necklace, I try to let it be the focal point.  I wear it with plain and simple outfits so that this necklace can just shine!

And of course I just have to share a picture of my whole family...this is the first year that we did not match or color coordinate.  My 11-year-old was absolutely thrilled about that!  We had to promise my 5-year-old a crazy picture so that she would take a "normal" picture.  Check out her face below! Ha! Gotta love it!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter celebrating the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Happy Wednesday!

Light Jeans, Tshirt, & Tom's

My son Jett & I had a date day last week. I loved getting to spend time with only him! He is so quirky, crazy & sweet all in one! I just put on a comfortable casual outfit. I don't typically love light jeans but I really like these I got from Old Navy. The pink tshirt came from Old Navy for $3. This is the time of year where I really get my wear out of my Tom's - which I love! My long gold necklace is from Walmart & my brown purse was a Christmas gift my mom gave me a few years ago. (Notice a trend...my mom gives really good Christmas gifts! :)) (Also, I'm not real sure why it looks like I have a lazy eye in this pic...apparently I need to open my eyes a little more next time!! :))

Easter Sunday

I love Easter! It is such a special day for Christians to remember how Jesus not only died a horrible death for us, but He then overcame death and rose from the grave three days later! I love that Easter signifies the end of winter and the beginning of spring, even though it doesn't always feel that way. I love getting to spend time with family that I don't see often enough. And, I admit it...I love making my family get dressed up in matching outfits on Easter Sunday. Luckily, my kids are still young enough that they don't mind. My husband, on the other hand...let's just say that I think that was the one reason he was glad to be working today!
This year I decided early on that I wanted to do yellow for our outfits. Not sure why, but I just got that in my head and it stuck. Now, you would think that yellow would be an easy color to do for Easter, but I'll tell you, I had a really hard time coming up with our outfits! I ended up being really happy with what I got though.

Dress: Steinmart; Shoes: Maurices

The color doesn't show up well in this picture, but this dress is a really pretty yellow. I actually had bought another dress from Ross, but I just didn't love it. I ended up returning it and getting this one instead. I was really comfortable in this dress and am so happy that I got it instead!

Casual Sunday Nights

I love Sunday nights! At our church we usually spend Sunday nights in prayer with and for each other. Now that the weather is starting to warm up, we often go to Sonic after church to hang out with people. Sunday nights are much more casual than Sunday mornings...here's what I wore this past week.

Top: Hand-me-down from Katie;
Pants: second-hand store;
Shoes: Toms

I rolled the pants up just to give the outfit a little different look. I think the angle is a little crazy in this picture, because I feel like I look out of whack or something!

What I Wore Wednesday...BLUE

I got this dress at Plato's Closet for only $12 and I absolutely love the fit and feel of it!  On the sleeves it has pretty little pearl buttons and the dress is a nice silk texture.  It is an awesome dress that I scored at a great price!

Sorry for the quality of these pictures - that's what you get when you make your 11 year old take your pictures when she's really just wanting to be playing out in the woods. :)

Outfit details:  Dress: Plato's Closet; Bag: Michael Kors (TJ Maxx);
Heels: Ebay (link here)

I love how perfectly these shoes go with my Michael Kors bag! These shoes are my absolute favorite piece in my closet right now.  The purse and the shoes both have gold studs on them so they are perfect together.  I know these shoes will be on repeat all summer long!  Don't you love when you find pieces that you adore?!

Happy Wednesday!

Black Leather & A Black Tunic

A few weeks ago Daniel & I were going out to eat for a friend's birthday & I just knew I had to wear my leather pants before I lost my chance (it was a particularly chilly,rainy night)! I had just gotten this black tunic at a new place in Longview I had never gone to called Intuition. I LOVE this tunic - it's super comfortable, hits at just the right spot & fits perfectly! My leather leggings I bought a few months ago from Body Shop & then I put my black heels from Ross with it. My necklace & earrings are actually from my mom!
