What I Wore Wednesday...A Winter Dress & Coat

When I saw this dress at Ross, I absolutely fell in love with it, and even better was the price tag (I don't remember exactly what I paid for it, but I know it was under $20)!

I'm also digging this awesome coat that my mom got me for Christmas.  I absolutely love it and I get a ton of compliments every time I wear it!  It also came from Ross, which reminds me of why Ross continues to be my very favorite place to shop.

Outfit Details:  Coat: Ross; Dress: Ross; Tights: Target;
Booties: JC Penney; Purse: Francesca's

What I Wore Wednesday...A Cheetah Print Dress

Outfit Details:  Dress: Hand me down (Originally Target);
Tights: Hand me down (Assets from Target); Booties: JC Penney
Red Coat (above):Gordman's, three seasons ago

This dress was originally a high-low dress, which I really do not like on me.  I took it to my sewing machine and evened out the back a little bit, and I have loved it!  The very best thing about this dress is that it was FREE because a very dear friend sees to it that at least twice a year I get a couple of bags full of hand me downs from her closet!  Everyone needs a friend like this :)

Happy Wednesday!

What I Wore Wednesday...Keeping it Simple

Sometimes it's good just to keep things simple.  A white sweater with jeans and boots in the fall is a great go to outfit for so many different outings.  Recently I wore this outfit while running errands and felt like even though it was simple, it still looked nicely put together.

Can I just tell you that this sweater was only $3.99 at JC Penney?!  I couldn't believe it when I saw the price!  I have loved this sweater and have already worn it several times this season and know it will be something that will be worn for many seasons to come.

I also love this crossbody bag that I recently purchased at Gordman's.  It has a really nice feel to it and is great for my casual days. Even though I'm crushing on my sweater and bag, my favorite piece of this outfit is definitely my riding boots that my mother in law bought me for my birthday!  I know these will be worn all through the winter season!

Outfit Details: Sweater: JC Penney; Skinny Jeans:  Walmart;
Riding Boots: Target

What about you?  How do you keep it simple on your casual days?

Happy Wednesday!

What I Wore Wednesday...Out with the White...

So can we just talk for a sec about how I am so totally a creature of habit?  All my life I have grown up with a mama who taught me that there is a set season for white - the dates that you are allowed to wear white are between Easter ad Labor Day.  No white before Easter.  No white after Labor Day.  Now that fashion is giving its nod of approval to white year round, this southern dresser is just having all kinds of problems with that idea!  And so I just have to admit that I will ALWAYS be a seasonal white wearer.  I made sure to wear my white jean capris one last time before Labor Day.

Outfit Details:  Jean Jacket: Old Navy (very old); TShirt: JC Penney;
Jean Capris:  Old Navy; Shoes: Platos Closet (originally Target);
Necklace: Body Shop
I just have to point out here that my belt cost $2 and came from Goodwill!  And as far as honest confessions go, I hate Goodwill.  Lots of my friends say that they get great deals there, but I NEVER find anything there - I drove out to the supposed best.Goodwill.ever {which was about 25 minutes from my home} and walked out with this $2 belt.  That's it.  Go me.
I'm loving these shoes that I scored at Plato's Closet for $6!!!  I do love my Platos.  It's like Goodwill on steroids.
This beautiful Gianni Binni purse also came from Platos.  I love it because of its gold color - it's gold without being too gold, if you know what I mean!
So there you have the end of the white season for me.  Here's to warm colors and scarves and hot apple cider.  Wait, I don't even like apple cider.  But you know what I mean!
Happy Wednesday!

Boyfriend Jeans

Sometimes you want to love a trend but you just can't make yourself.  I really love the look of boyfriend jeans on everyone else, but when I went and got myself a pair, I just couldn't make myself love the look.  I feel like I have a few too many inches extra on the hips and too few inches as far as height to pull off this look!  I do like that it helps me to be a little more casual, though, so I will probably still pull them out occasionally.  Surprisingly enough, I do not feel like you have to love every.single.look.  Sometimes it really is awesome just to be comfortable!!

Outfit Details:  Top:  JC Penney; Boyfriend Jeans:  JC Penney;
Shoes:  Toms

Isn't this purse lovely?!  I have been looking for an affordable cognac purse for quite some time, and when I stumbled upon this one at Francesca's, it had all of my non-negotiables that I was looking for.  Cognac?  Check.  Gold chain links?  Check.  Crossbody option?  Check.  Affordable price tag?  Check check.  I love this purse and know I'm going to use it a ton in the winter!

I wore my boyfriend jeans twice in one week (which is really crazy since I just got through saying I'm not crazy about them on me!) since I had a week full of errands and basketball camp for the older girls.  This time I styled the jeans with a fun pair of pink boat shoes that were handed down to me.  I have been looking for just the right thing to wear these shoes with, and I think they made the outfit a lot more fun!

Outfit Details:  Top:  JC Penney (only $6!); Tank Top:  JC Penney;
Boyfriend Jeans:  JC Penney; Shoes:  Hand me down (original unknown)

I just noticed that I have a thing going with Penney's lately!  I have been loving having a new place to shop and get great deals.

How about you?  Do you love the boyfriend look?
Happy Friday, and have a great weekend!

the basics

Do you ever have a hard time finding the basic pieces for your wardrobe?  I don't know why, but tees and tanks are always hard for me to find.  I am kind of particular about the fit and feel of these items, and so I won't just pick up one of these unless I really love them.

A while back I went on the hunt for some new tanks.  Most of mine were getting old and dingy, and I also needed some colors that I didn't already have.  I proceeded to text the sisters and ask them where they get their tanks...to which I got three completely different responses!  I got everything from one sister likes racerback tanks, to one likes short tanks, one likes shelf bra tanks...well, you get the picture!  So I got to thinking, what do I like in a tank?

I decided a few things about my tanks are essential...wider straps, for instance. I like a long tank top, because I like to layer and have my tank hanging out from underneath my shirt.  Quality is important, too, because I wear my tank tops a lot, especially as undershirts, and I am constantly washing my tank tops.  No racerback, no shelf bra, not too low - my list was pretty long!

As I began looking, it was hard to find all of these things in one shirt!  But finally, after looking all around the city, I found a tank that I fell in love with!

I found the Joe Fresh Essential tank top at JC Penney, and I love this brand!  Even after washing it several times and wearing mine for over a month pretty regularly, I still really love this tank!  Originally they are $10, but they run specials on them fairly often, and I got mine for $5.  Not bad for a great quality tank top!  I ended up getting a few of them in different colors since they can be so hard to find!

Just wanted to share my great find with you all.  Happy shopping ;)
